WE Over ME

This past week we attended a really neat fundraising event on behalf of The Real Estate Council (TREC) called "A Community Cooks" at Paul Quinn College. TREC's 2012 Associate Leadership Council (ALC) class partnered with Paul Quinn to assist with the colleges' vision to positively impacting the supply of healthy food in South Dallas. Members of the class worked diligently to transform the school's football field into the "WE Over ME Farm" planting fruits and vegetables that can be sold to area families. With the nearest grocery store four miles away, and coupled with the transportation issues faced by low-income neighborhoods, this results in significantly limited access to healthy food. The Farm will now provide fresh food for many years to come. Enjoy some photos!

Thrift Store Finds

Greetings, Bungalow-ers!

Occasionally, I find myself at the Salvation Army on my lunch break.  Their large store on Inwood Rd. is near where I work, so it's easy to swing by and take a gander at what new inventory they have.  I particularly like the furniture and jewelry... I have bought a few key pieces over the years and treasure them immensely. I stopped by last week and wanted to share a few of of my findings.  Have you ever bought anything at a thrift store?

Great piece for use as a wardrobe or media cabinet.

Love this hardware.

Would be great for a kids room.  Paint entirely, add accent colors or change out the hardware.

Considered getting this, but not sure what to use it for.

Darling little marble-top tables just needing a little TLC.  And only $36 - can't be beat!

I liked the lines of this piece.
It had drawers inside the middle doors.

Cute clogs!

These clip-on earrings remind me of my grandmother.

Chic gold-rimmed glasses.

I really considered purchasing this piece and using it as an entry table, but it was just too big. Would look stellar painted a glossy white or other fun color.

FD Luxe-urious!

FDLuxe.com
Have you seen the glamified, new look of FD Luxe on stands now?!?! Those of you in Dallas probably remember the tall newspaper format that they coveted for a few years. This updated version is a true, binded magazine complete with wide pages, beautiful layout and excellent color and texture.

And the content is better than ever - or "hot!" as Editor in Chief, Rob Brinkley, describes it. He hopes it "stops you in your tracks." Sections titled "Digitally Delicious" (aka for your iPad), "Fixated," and "Dandy Advice." Wonder if these will change with each issue?

Brimming from cover to cover with features on Tom Ford's new makeup line, Bentley's new SUV (which already has its own Twitter hathtag, #EXP9F), the Dallas dining scene and of course the much enjoyed social, nightlife and special event photos in the back of the book (or B.O.B.. in magazine lingo). This issue spotlights the statuesque wife of the Dallas Museum of Art's new-to-town director, Jacqueline Anderson (PaperCity did a small feature on her in their March issue). And she's a stunner!

And Dallas-ites Mark and Karla McKinley show off their Park Cities home full of fantastic, contemporary art and the work of decorator, Michelle Nussbaumer (the magazine is worth picking up just for these photos)

So, what are you waiting for?  Go get your copy pronto!  Are you a fan of the new look?  And tell me, do you read your magazines from front to back or back to front?

And, PaperCity, are you next?

Check out FDLuxe's new iPhone app, Like them on Facebook, follow them on Twitter at @FDLuxe.

Console Consulting

I am struggling to find a console table that is a reasonable price, yet of good quality and chic. My dimensions also create a bit of a challenge - I need a pretty skinny table (15-18" deep), as the front door opens into it. I think a fantastic console (or sofa) table is the start of a great entry. I like the Parsons desk from West Elm, but it is just too deep. Here are a few others that I have my eye on. What are some of your favorites? And what do you think should be on the table? We'll dive into that topic soon ...
