Kenzo Frenzy
KENZO. Heard of 'em? If you haven't, you will. This unpretentious brand is in revival mode and are attracting worldwide fans at record pace. Their logo sweatshirts are a monster hit among the "cool kids" this season and you will soon see more. Fashion week street styles were full of this green sweatshirt above. We hear their upcoming jean jackets, which featur the designers' new theme written large on their backs: Kenzo Jungle Japan, will soon have nothin' on those sweatshirts.
A little history... Jungle Jap, was the store that put designer Kenzo Takada on the Paris map back in the 70's when Kenzo's success was just taking off. Kenzo's love for fashion developed at an early age, particularly through reading his sisters' magazines. He withdrew from college, against the will of his family, to attend Tokyo's Bunka Fashion College, which had then just opened its doors to male students, in 1958.
Kenzo's first designs started because he could only afford to buy his fabrics from flea sales. As a result, Kenzo had to mix many bold fabrics together to make one garment.
Utility gear and exotic prints were were in full force at the Kenzo Spring 2013 show. Safari jackets crossed with jumpsuits, and knee-high boots enhanced with waterproof waders. Prints may have dropped off the Paris radar this season, but not at Kenzo. Leopard mixed with neon, and botanical with diagonal tiger stripes for everyone!
