White Night

Leave it to the red carpet to bring trends to the forefront. As of Sunday night, white is the new black. And I love it.

Kenton Magazine
It led me to think of my old apartment in Uptown. I moved in with the intention of painting the walls, but never really got around to it. And the white really grew on me. 10 years ago - while I’m pained to admit this - I probably would have considered painting one of the rooms red. Goes to show how our tastes change and evolve, does it not? Thank God.

Today, the one thing that I like more than color is the absence of it. Just a pop of color against an all white background really goes a long way. Black, fuscia, kelly green.... speak to me!

But who knew there were so many shades of white?! Benjamin Moore makes more than 150 shades of the darn color. Or is it a color? We’ll save that for another Oprah show post.

Oscars Countdown

Every year, my anticipation and excitement for the Oscars builds and builds. Although it signals the conclusion of awards season, this year has "unpredictable" written all over it. For me, the real winners are determined during the Red Carpet. Nothing better. However, if any guy ever heard my friends and myself critique the celebrities and their dresses, they would probably shun women forever. Seriously, we're snarky.

Come on, you know you've done it.

But it makes me think ... what would I wear to the Oscars?

To fill the time before Sunday evening, here are some of my most memorable dresses of the past years. What are yours?

pink + red

One time in high school I wore a pink top when my nails were painted bright red. I remember getting so much flack for that ... it was like I was committing fashion suicide to pair those two colors together. My friends believed that color combo was just simply incompatible. I, secretly, thought they actually married quite well and have always been proud of myself for having the "you know what" to wear the two colors together ... in 1998. Mmmm hmmm. I mean, to get pink, you take red and add white, right?

Would you ever combine red and pink in fashion? Do you think the colors clash? What about in your home?

MB Fashion Week Fall 2013

Despite winter snow storm “Nemo,” and the impending chaos it brought with it, New York Fashion Week kicked off last week to rave reviews. And today, day 7, is a BIG day. If your boss will allow it, you can watch all the shows live here

In recent years, fashion shows, once closed to industry professionals, have become something of a spectator sport for the hundreds of stylists, buyers, editors, models, designers, bloggers, fashionistas and celebrities who attend. Let's be honest, it's on my "bucket list" to attend a fashion week runway show. Isn't it on yours? I imagine it being an extremely unique experience. Have you ever been to one? What was it like? Were you starstruck? Did your heart swell? Were you on the verge of tears?

Have you been keeping up with the shows this season? See Tracy Reese's below. You can find more on the MB Fashion Week YouTube channel too.

More on what's trending for Fall 2013 later. #neverwantittoend

I'm off to the slopes of Colorado for a few days!  Toodles.

Where the Oscar Winners Go

"And the Oscar goes to ..."

Thanks to Architectural Digest for posting a rendering of their stylish backstage lounge where stars will relax in between presenting and receiving their awards at the Oscars (Sunday, Feb. 24, but you already knew that). AD sponsors the room each year. The 2013 space was designed by the talented Madeline Stuart.  "The Greenroom will be an elegant Art Deco–style space inspired by Hollywood’s most glamorous era, the 1930s," according to AD. Man, just imagine how much star power will pass through here in a matter of hours! Check out some other spaces by the versatile California designer below. Or, to see past AD Oscar Greenrooms, click here.
